Positive Quote: “We’re drowning in information and starving for knowledge.” – Rutherford D. Rogers
This quote reminds me of ‘Big Data’. What does Big Data really mean? It is a hot word thrown around for the past few years.
Wikipedia defines big data as “Big data is the term for a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications.“ Sounds like a needle in a haystack.
For me, it means all the information you are storing in many, various places. Having the data is one thing, taking the data and being able to use it are two different things. Maybe that is why I like KPIs (Key Performance Indicators); these are metrics that will show something (knowledge). Once you know the KPIs for your type of business, then you have to reverse engineer it to determine how you will be getting the data carved out from the universe.
I personally like to chase down new metrics. To me there has to be a way (somehow) to determine how you are doing. It is finding the way that can take time. Once I know what the real landscape looks like I am more able to see where the valleys and mountains are in service, processes, and overall health of the team.

Have a fabulous Friday and a happy Valentine’s Day.
