“The greatest gift is not being afraid to question.” – Ruby Dee

Positive Quote: “The greatest gift is not being afraid to question.” – Ruby Dee

I like this quote because it reminds me that to question something is a good thing, however it is also important that you question things with the correct tone of voice and with good intentions. To question for questions sake can be unproductive in so many ways.

Have a fantastic Thursday.

“Never ruin an apology with an excuse.” – Kimberly Johnson

Positive Quote: “Never ruin an apology with an excuse.” – Kimberly Johnson

An apology means saying you are sorry and meaning it. Something like “I’m sorry I was late.” end of sentence instead of “I’m sorry I was late the guy in front of me wouldn’t move over.” While one is actually apologizing, the other is not accepting responsibility (accountability) and is blaming others or making excuses.

There are many times where I wanted to make an excuse when something goes wrong, doesn’t work out well, or is not what it should have been. However, those are the times I remind myself to take a deep breath and breathe. Then to look at what is in front of me, understand what went wrong and apologize without blame.

For example: say I get a call or email from someone who is not happy with the service they received from one of my team members. I could say things like, ‘Oh that person is training, they are new, or even something like, that doesn’t normally happen’… yet until I say those two words of ‘I’m sorry’ the rest is excuses. Now, I can follow up ‘I’m sorry’ with other things like ‘I’ll talk to the individual and make sure this doesn’t happen again or once we get this straightened out we will update our procedures to reflect this type of scenario so it doesn’t happen again, or other additional information that does not take away from the apology.

“We do not see things as they are, but as we are ourselves.” – Henry M. Tomlinson

Positive Quote: “We do not see things as they are, but as we are ourselves.” – Henry M. Tomlinson

This quote reminds me of the times where I thought something was a certain way and then in hindsight (after a while had passed) it turned out to be completely different.

It is difficult to stop and try to look at things with a different perspective. Yet, in order to grow, that is what I remind myself to do. My wonderful spouse tells me often that I fling spaghetti at him; in other words my ideas and thoughts shoot out like spaghetti. I like this because I can bounce thoughts and ideas off of him and get a totally different perspective. In quite a few cases, he brings to light things that I shake my head and ask myself, why I not thought of that. He keeps me grounded.

I’m an introvert by nature and having people I can bounce ideas and thoughts with without the fear of judgment is something I have come to appreciate.

“No rain, no rainbows.” – Anonymous

Positive Quote: “No rain, no rainbows.” – Anonymous

I like to look at rainbows. Each one is different. Yet, all came after rain.

Stepping back and accepting that in life there will be rain; misunderstandings, differences of opinion, and many other things… yet there will also be rainbows. Not after every rain, yet more often than not.

When a rainbow comes it is important to remember the rain and know you got through whatever it was. This has helped me to work to maintain a positive outlook and be optimistic of the future.

“We didn’t lose the game; we just ran out of time.” – Vince Lombardi

Positive Quote: “We didn’t lose the game; we just ran out of time.” – Vince Lombardi

This quote reminds me that even if I fall behind or am not quite ‘getting’ it or even if I have areas of opportunities to address, that I cannot give up. I should keep at it and work to improve, succeed, and become better. I can be more tenacious.

“A ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” – John A. Shedd

Positive Quote: “A ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” – John A. Shedd

I continue to remind myself that what is safe and comfortable is not always the best thing. Stepping back and asking myself if I am going outside my comfort zone or if I am working on the ‘right’ things versus what I know….. This quote brings it to life for me in a different way that I appreciate.

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” – Andre Gide

Positive Quote: “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” – Andre Gide

This quote reminds me that going outside my comfort zone can be scary, yet when I do I get to experience things I have not had the opportunity to before. Some are good and some are not so good…. I call those lessons learned. How do you know if something won’t work unless you try it?

On the days where the not so good things are happening, I remind myself that 1) at least I tried and 2) this was a new experience and 3) I learned something from it.

What do you think of this quote?

Have a terrific Tuesday.

P.S. Today is my birthday, so I think I’ll look to lose sight of the shore today and try something new.

Kind regards,
