“Creative thinking is today’s most prized, profit-producing possession for any individual, corporation or country. It has the capacity to change you, your business and the world.” – Robert P. Crawford

Positive Quote: “Creative thinking is today’s most prized, profit-producing possession for any individual, corporation or country. It has the capacity to change you, your business and the world.” – Robert P. Crawford

Creative thinking? To me this means thinking outside of the norm, trying things not yet tested, being able to throw any type of idea around and seeing what sticks.

I don’t know if I am a creative thinker, I do know I am a thinker. I also know I don’t have all the answers or solutions. I do my best to work with and through others to help bring to light the best ideas and suggestions.

Some ways I try to think creatively is using brainstorm sessions, focus groups, asking people for their input, step back and work on something more muscle memory to clear my head before going back to the other item. I also have a list posted at my desk by Mitch Ditkoff on 100 ways to be creative on the job.

“As tools become rusty; so does the mind; a garden uncared for soon becomes smothered in weeds; a talent neglected withers and dies.” – Ethel R. Page

Positive Quote: “As tools become rusty; so does the mind; a garden uncared for soon becomes smothered in weeds; a talent neglected withers and dies.” – Ethel R. Page

A liken this quote to another saying I hear now and again…. To keep your knife or saw sharpened. It references the mind and the desire.

When I look inside myself and see what motivates me; a large factor is learning new things, finding ways to improve what is, and helping others grow.

I believe leadership can be equated in some ways with tending a garden… a garden of differing team members, different talents, different personalities, and differing leadership styles dependent on the situation…. yet combined, they make up a beautiful garden. A flower, plant, tree, or anything in a garden cannot be left unattended for long, or weeds will appear or it can wither away. I ask myself… am I tending to the right gardens? Am I tending to them as often as I should? I think these are good questions that I will most probably be asking myself these questions for many years to come.

“In life you need either inspiration or desperation.” – Anthony Robbins

Positive Quote: “In life you need either inspiration or desperation.” – Anthony Robbins

I don’t know if life is this cut and dry. Would drive and desire be inspiration, sometimes, yet not always. As for desperation, where would boredom fit or disengagement?

I do like this quote because it helps me evaluate myself and where I am going on my personal development path. It helps me ask myself if what I am doing or about to do in life is something I can be passionate about, be fully engaged in, and give it all my attention during that time….if I can’t answer yes, the I have to ask myself why am I thinking of doing it.

I think this quote will stay with me for a while as I think about it some more and see how it fits me and where I am in my journey.

“Speech is the mirror of the soul; as a man speaks, so he is.” – Publilius Syrus

Positive Quote: “Speech is the mirror of the soul; as a man speaks, so he is.” – Publilius Syrus

This quote reminds me that what I say, how I interact with people, how I accept responsibility and accountability, and how I handle conflict and stress speaks volumes to my soul, my character.

The other day, a wise person was telling me that if you speak something often enough it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. For example, if you tell someone “how clumsy of me, I am such a klutz” it reinforces that thought. It would be better to say, “I’m sorry, I seem to have knocked over your xyz, let me help clean it up”.

It can go even deeper, if you tell your team you have an open door policy and they can come to you with any issue and each time someone comes with bad news, you yell at them, raise your voice, or slam things around your desk….. the message you are sending is not one of openness. After a time, people will avoid going to you which can over negative impacts.

I, personally, want to have a soul that shines, that is welcoming. My goal is to have my words and actions mirror who I am and more importantly, who I want to be.

“Ten Success Rules” – Herbert N Casson

Positive Quote: “Ten Success Rules
Put success before amusement.
Learn something every day.
Cut free from routine.
Concentrate on net profits.
Make your services known.
Never worry over trifles.
Shape your decisions quickly.
Acquire skill and technique.
Deserve loyalty and co-operation.
Value character above all.”
– Herbert N. Casson

The one rule that spoke to me the loudest was ‘learn something every day’. This is a rule I do my best to live by. Each day is a new opportunity to learn and grow and be a better me.

Which rule speaks to you?

Have a wonderful Tuesday.

“The voice is the second face.” – Gerard Bauer

Positive Quote: “The voice is the second face.” – Gerard Bauer

This quote has me thinking. Can you image the voice as a second face? When I think about it in those terms it seems so simple yet valid. The way we speak, our tonal inflection, our volume, our words are presenting the image of who we are to the world. In this day and age most communications I have are over the phone or via email. I could go years talking to someone and never having met them in person. This makes my voice, my words, and the representation of me.

It makes me ask myself….. what image of me in my voice, my tone, my words portraying to others? I don’t know the answer; I hope I do, yet unless I seek feedback I don’t know for sure. I can go forward and recognize that there is power in one’s voice and words and ensure I treat it as such.

“To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity.” – Donald A. Adams

Positive Quote: “To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity.” – Donald A. Adams

In life, I appreciate people who provide excellent service with sincerity. You want someone to smile, to be kind, to be courteous and not to ignore you or read from a script when talking to you. I can remember good experiences and not so good experiences. I want to be a good experience for someone. That is a goal in my interactions with others; I want to be sincere, helpful, and kind. How do you go into your interactions with others? Is it something you think about?
