“Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip.” – Will Rogers

Positive Quote: “Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip.” – Will Rogers

This time of year finds me contemplative. Perhaps that is why this quote drew me in. Imagine if every person in the world had a personal parrot. This parrot went with them everywhere they went; home, work, school, shopping, vacations…. you get the point. This parrot would have been exposed to you, the you in public and the you in private, the you at social gatherings and the you when you think no one is looking or listening.

Would you sell you parrot to someone else, much less the local gossip?

As a parent, my children will go out into the world, as they are currently doing, by going to school, hanging out with friends, and then leaving home to go off to college. What kind of parent was I, what will they say about me to others when asked? I hope it has more positive than anything else. I want to live in such a way that my children, my daughter can go into the world prepared to thrive and succeed and knowing that I was not the perfect parent, the best parent, yet that she was loved.

Four years ago yesterday, my father passed away from cancer. It was unexpected and sudden. Those he left behind, well, we are the parrots. I am reminded that those I interact with, live with, love, and am around in general…those, those are all people who will perhaps talk about me or what I said or did or how I acted. What will my legacy be?

What do you think of this quote?

Have a great Monday and ask yourself….what is your legacy?
