The Doughnut… Optimism versus Pessimism

Positive Quote: “Between the optimist and the pessimist, the difference is droll. The optimist sees the doughnut; the pessimist the hole!” – Oscar Wilde

More often than not, I am the optimist, yet, being pessimistic from time to time as well. I think the world needs both to continue to innovate, change, evolve, and meet the needs of things we did not even know we needed.

I like this quote much better than the saying of ‘glass half empty or half full’… I think it paints a better picture of the differences, yet also the value of each viewpoint.

There are times where a pessimist is needed to find the areas of potential or future risks, while the optimist is needed to help get the team over the roadblocks, the hurdles, the times where success doesn’t seem around the corner.

I also believe that the pessimist should be able to acknowledge and accept that the doughnut exists and has value. While the optimist should accept and acknowledge that the doughnut has flaws or areas of opportunity. It is like that in life, nothing is perfect, yet we can take control of what we can and make it the best it can be. We can influence our surroundings and make a difference if we try and believe we can.

What do you think of this quote?

As a side note, I personally prefer the doughnuts that are whole with filling. I wonder what that says about me?

Have a marvelous Monday.
